So my mom and I were walking around Kandy today for some shopping and stepped into the market hall for a while to well, shop some more. I was so fascinated by everything in there as I love markets like these. Many little shops selling all kinds of things!ย Quite cool I must say.

This market has been around for quite a long time now, not sure about the exact year BUT, my mom and her cousins used to shop here when they were young. Its much bigger than it seems in the picture really! ๐Ÿ˜€

The ground floor is full of fruit vendors selling all kinds of exotic tropical fruit and sri lankan herbs and spices! The people there are kind enough to cut the fruit up for you so you get to do some tasting before buying ๐Ÿ™‚ One of the highlights of my yearly visit to Sri Lanka is indulging in the huge variety of fruit, (because you don’t really get it all back in Dubai) so I loved this bit!

The first floor was full ofย shops that sold souvenirs, batik clothes, leather goods and herbal products. Even though I’m Sri Lankan, my visits here are never complete without a serious souvenir shopping session so I bought myself a cute little elephant keychain which is super cute. Oh and a pair of leather flats too! They’ve got this toe ring thing going on and it just looks so old school and traditional – I love it! ๐Ÿ˜€

There were little stalls outside the market that sold fruits, veggies and lottery tickets. There were also little cart things that sold yummy fried snacks ๐Ÿ˜€

After all that walking and shopping was done with, we got into a tuctuc and headed right home!Day well spent in town today and I’m definitely going to miss this place. My vacation this year was so eventful and fun I can’t wait to come back here again ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Hope you’ve enjoyed reading my posts about Sri Lanka ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow!. Love the pix. The neatest thing ever are those spices packed in long transparent covers. Never seen it like that even in Kerala. I love mangosteen โ™ก.. So glad to hear you had a lovely vacation!
