Unless you’re a social outcast, i’m sure you’d be aware about the ongoing french macaron trend. Firstly, don’t try to be a grammar nazi on me and point out that they are macaroons and not macarons. Well news flash little ones, macaroons contain coconut, and macarons are the super colourful little confectioneries! And yes – this blog post is about macarons.
So like, im a little obsessed with masterchef australia, and in this one episode my super favourite patissier Adriano Zumbo brought in this amazing macaron tower. (http://www.beijingtoday.com.cn/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/macarons420-420×0.jpg) < yeah that’s a picture of it.
As you can see, Adriano Zumbo is a macaron genius, and hes just awesome.
So, i tried out baking me some macarons today. It was pretty darn easy really. I just made a basic vanilla flavoured macaron and filled it with nutella because i was a little lazy to make me some ganache.
Ingredients – 3/4 cup almond meal, 1 cup of powdered sugar, 4 tbsp granulated sugar, 2 egg whites, vanilla extract.
Alright so whatchu gotta do first, is sift the almond meal and powdered sugar together and just mix them so they’re combined together. And then start on the egg whites, beat them till they’re frothy and gradually add in the granulated sugar and vanilla until you form shiny stiff peaks! Once that’s taken care of, you should fold in the dry ingredients slowly 😀 it deflates the egg whites a little, but its alright.
Stuff it all in a piping bag, make teeny circles on a parchment paper-lined baking tray and pop it into the oven for 15 to 20 minutes at 160 degrees. If you want to add sprinkles on top of it like i did, you gotta sprinkle them on before stuffing it into the oven. DUH?
When they’re done – let them cool completely and then sandwich them with any filling of your choice! 😀 I wasn’t able to get super awesome pictures, cos i kept eating them……….. but i do have this one okay-ish picture. (below)
Yeah so that’s about it for now! 😀
Thanks for wasting your life on my blog posts.
